Big Bend camping area is located approximately 137 kilometres from Adelaide via Swan Reach. The area is on the Eastern side of the River Murray offering water side camping. There are no facilities available and no firewood so you will need to bring your own wood. Plenty of room for any size rig.

BURRA CREEK GORGE CAMPGROUND:

Large campground located 23kms out from Burra on the Robertstown to Burra road. There are two main water holes that campers can camp along side of with lots of shaded open camp spots available. There are some table and chairs with two pit toilets. Room for large groups and rigs.

HOGWASH BEND:

Large camping area along the River Murray situated 196kms from Adelaide between Morgan and Waikerie. Offers sandy camping areas as well as shaded camp spots looking down onto the water. Rubbish bins supplied, but no toilets. Taller caravans need to be careful when driving under some of the low hanging tree branches. Room for small and large rigs, top spot.
Duration of stay: Several nights during June 2008.

LYRUP FLATS:

Large camping area on the Eastern side of the Lyrup Ferry within the Murray River National Park. There is one toilet for campers to use although it is placed well away from the camping ground for some unknown reason. There is plenty of room in this campground for any combination of caravan or camper. Fire pits are available to be used when within the non fire season. The campground is located right on the bank of the River Murray with a rubbish collection area.

MAMBRAY CREEK:

Large rest area located 47kms South of Port Augusta on both sides of Highway One. We stopped in the Eastern side parking bay between the main road and the railway line. Lots of noise from trains, trucks and automobiles. No facilities.

NORTH TENT HILL:

A long Parking Bay 34 kms North of Port Augusta which has now been partly fenced off to prevent people from venturing too far away from the road and possibly damaging the country side. Good Parking Bay close to the main road which is shared with large trucks and the like. No facilities other than a table under an erected shade cover.

OODLA WIRRA:

Large rest area located 10kms South West of Oodla Wirra on the Barrier Highway not far from the railway line. Partly spoilt by the human waste behind some of the bushes. No facilities.

PORT ARTHUR REST AREA:

Large rest area located 18kms West of Port Wakefield or 9kms North of Clinton. It is situated half way between the main road and the ocean offering great views during the early part of the morning when the tide is full. Good location for an overnight stop or even more than one night's stay.

PORT GERMEIN SOUTH REST AREA 2:

Large Rest Area 4 kms South of Port Germein on the Western side of the main Port Pirie Port Augusta road. There is a shelter area with table and chairs but no water or toilets. There is one large cement pad which is large enough to park the caravan and tow vehicle on for a level setting. Great coastal sea view here although it is too far to walk to the water. Well away from the main road and far enough away from the railway line.

RAMCO POINT:

Large rest area located along side of the boat ramp offering only one spot with semi grassed area. Larger ground area with no grass cover. Has a large grassed picnic area on the opposite side of the boat ramp with no toilets. Ideal overnight stop but would not suite any time that the speed boats were running.

SWAN REACH (TENBURY-HUNTER RESERVE):

Tenbury-Hunter Reserve camp ground is locate 127kms North East of Adelaide on the Western side of the Murray River. The camp ground offers fire pits and a public toilet with no shower facilities. On the opposite side of the Murray River is the small township of Swan Reach.

WAIKERIE:

Camping area on the river's edge, 5kms East from the main township of Waikerie. There are no facilities for this area, just plenty of room to camp for the night. We didn't see any "No Camping" signs anywhere along this part of the river.

Chambers Pillar is located approximately 180kms south of Alice Springs and offers a small campground for overnight use. There are pit toilets, fireplaces and free gas bbq's available which is covered by a very small camping fee. It is a long way out to this location and an overnight camp is ideal for this location.

DEVILS MARBLES:

The Devils Marbles campground is located in Behind the historic Devils Marbles some 410kms North of Alice Springs. The campground offers several pit type toilets and many fireplace bbq pits. This is an ideal stop over for those who want to photograph the Marbles at sunset and sunrise.

The Palm Valley campground is located 4kms away from the Palm Valley Gorge car park. The campground offers showers, septic toilets and fireplaces with bbq pits. Should the main campground be full, there is also and overflow section which was being used when we stopped there. If you are lucky, you may even see a wild dingo walk by.

Rainbow Valley campground is a small campground which is located a short walk from the main feature at the valley. A pit toilet is available to campers as are fireplaces and free gas bbq's.

Woodland campground is locatednear Redbank Gorge in the West MacDonnell Ranges, west of Alice Springs. This is a very large campground with drop toilets, fire places and free gas bbq's. After paying a small camping fee, it is only a matter of driving through the campground and selecting one of the many campsites.

DOMBLEGABBA REST AREA:

Domblegabba Rest Area is located 143kms East of Balladonia and 38kms West of Caiguna. This is a Rest Area suited to big rigs offering plenty of room to park on it's many roads within the area. There is a toilet for Rest Area users as well as water held in a tank which is collected from the shelter shed in the Rest Area. There are no showers or taps available.

GALENA BRIDGE REST AREA (MURCHINSON RIVER)

Galena Bridge Rest Area is located 115kms South of the Billabong Roadhouse or 13kms north of the Kalbarri turn off. This is a large rest area which has been set up on both sides of the river. There is plenty of room for large rigs, but there is only a toilet on the South side of the river. There is no showers or taps available.

MARY POOL REST AREA:

Mary Pool Rest Area is located 118kms from Halls Creek towards Fitzroy Crossing. There is signage on the main road for the turn off for Mary Pool. This is a very large campground on the banks of the Margaret River with two pit type toilets. There are no showers or water. There are many rubbish bins around the campground.

YANNARIE RIVER REST AREA:

Yannarie River Rest Area is located 302kms North East of Carnarvon or 1204kms North of Perth. The Rest Area offers toilets at the main part of the Rest Area. From the main part, there is a huge camping area scattered amongst gum trees between the river and the toilets. There is plenty of room for big rigs and there are bins supplied for patrons to dispose of their rubbish in the proper manner.

YULE RIVER REST AREA:

Yule River Rest Area is located 50kms South of Port Headland on the Yule River. During our stay here, there was unseasonable water in the river which made for a more pleasant surrounding. The rest area offers toilets and heaps of shade to park under although you need to be quick to get a spot. There are rubbish bins within the rest area.
