Just Cruisin with Mick and Sally

Moonta Bay South Australia - November 27th 2009 until November 30th 2009.

Moonta Bay Caravan Park is located 167kms North West of Adelaide and is situated on theEastern side of Spencer Gulf of South Australia.

Friday November 27th 2009: As we has attended a funeral in Gawler at 12:30pm, we were a little late leaving compared to our original plans but never the less we were on our way towards Moonta Bay by 2:16pm driving under very windy conditions. The wind that we left home with was a sign of what the weather was going to be like for the entire weekend. We had planned on a land based fishing and crabbing weekend but that was soon changed with the windy conditions that prevailed at Moonta Bay. Dion, Sam and Sonia were already set up on their site by the time we arrived at 4:08pm where I was given the do's and don'ts by the lady in the booking office. It almost made me feel like I had done something wrong before I have even stepped foot in the place, I think a good PR course would do wonders for her.

After initially setting up our site, the wind died down and we thought that perhaps the weather may improve but that wasn't to be the case. Within a half of an hour the wind started to blow even stronger than before. At this stage we decided to put the awning out and attach the walls so that we had some shelter from the wind even if it mean sitting in the annex. After a game of Uno it was off to bed to listen to the wind blow and the occasional shower of rain.

Saturday November 28th 2009: Overcast skies and strong winds were the flavor of the day yet again making it impossible to go out onto the jetty to try for some fish. During the morning we went for a drive into Moonta Bay so that Sally could have a look in one of the Craft shops. Unfortunately for Sally the local shop was no longer in business and was all shut up. The wind continued to blow all day with showers of rain on and off making it impossible to even walk out onto the jetty which was a little disappointing. We took a short drive out onto the Minlaton road to enjoy some home made ice cream which was made on the premises that were selling it. The evening was spent listening to the wind blow and playing Rummiking which was new for some of us.

Sunday November 29th 2009: After another very windy night and some very heavy showers of rain, the day seemed to be the best so far as the wind had now eased and the sun had started to shine for longer periods of time although there was still the occasional light shower of rain. Dion, Sam and Sonia left us and started to head home at 2:30pm. At this stage Sally and I packed away the awning walls before another shower of rain had them wet to transport home. Late afternoon saw Sally putting on the roast for our evening meal which smelt very nice as I am sitting here entering details into our web site. After the roast leg was all consumed and the dishes done, we settled in for another night of playing Rummiking before heading off to bed.

Monday November 30th 2009: As was forecasted, the weather had improved a great deal with all wind now blown out and the occasional shower of light rain which wasn't anything to worry about. This allowed us to pack up and start heading for home by 9:25am where we arrived at 11:26am. Once everything was unpacked from the caravan it was off to one of the local Hotels where we had a counter lunch to finish off what was a good weekend away.
