Just Cruisin with Mick and Sally

Canberra Australia - October 7th until October 10th 2010.

Canberra, the Capital of Australia.

Thursday October 7th 2010: One may ask that for a trip such as this one, "why didn't we fly due to the distance and the short time to do it all in"? Even though it was a lot of driving, it allowed Sally and I to have a look at some of the tourist sites that I drive past with a B-Double semi as I travel from Adelaide South Australia to Wagga Wagga New South Wales twice each week. With our first night planned for Wagga Wagga, we left home without the caravan for this trip at 6.00am and arrived at Tooleybuc at 11:35am for lunch where it was amazing to see the high water level in the River Murray before continuing on to the Carrathool Bridge which goes over the Murrumbidgee River. From here it was on to Wagga Wagga Junction Motel where we arrived at 6.00pm.

Friday October 8th 2010: Heading out of Wagga Wagga at 8:02am, it was only a short drive to Canberra where we arrived at 11.00am. Our first place to visit was the Cockington Green Gardens which is a display of miniature buildings set out amongst manicured gardens. More information on Cockington Green Gardens can be found by clicking on this link.

While we were paying our entry fee, the helpful lady on the gate told us about the Tulip Top Gardens which was located thirteen kilometres from Canberra out on the road to Sydney. Once we had finished at the Cockington Green Gardens, we took the thirteen kilometre drive out to the Tulip Top Gardens to have a look at the thousands of tulips and blossom trees that were on display in there natural settings. More information about the Tulip Top Gardens can be found by clicking on this link.

From the Tulip Top Gardens, it was into Canberra where we went to the Tulip Floriade, something that we had been wanting to see for several years. The colours on display were magnificent to view with the sun shining on the thousands of Tulips and assorted bulbs. More information about the Floriade can be found by clicking on this link.

As the sun was trying to shine, we took the opportunity to visit the Telstra Tower for a bird's eye view over Canberra. As normally happens when we visit the tower, it takes a few seconds to work out why the remote locking on our vehicle would not work. Most vehicles are effected by the microwaves given off by the tower that prevent most security locking systems from working.

Saturday October 9th 2010: As the wedding wasn't until mid afternoon, it allowed us the time to visit Parliament House during the morning where we took a free tour which points out the highlights of what is to see within Parliament House. It also allows anyone to ask questions regarding what happens while Parlaiment is sitting. The day quickly went and we were soon a the wedding which filled the remainder of the day and evening.

Sunday October 10th 2010: With a lot of kilometres ahead of us, we left Canberra at 7:18am heading for the Ettamogah Pub at Albury where we arrived at 10:58am before turning for Echuca and Swan Hill where we viewed the water level in the River Murray which was higher than we had ever seen at these two locations. The last time we were at Echuca, the paddle steamers had trouble negotiating the river due to the low level of water.

After a long day on the road we arrived home at 11:15am knowing that the next rip away would see the caravan hooked onto the back of the Patrol.
